Use a Cup and not spouts or artificial nipples

In this website, I will never promote pacifiers and milk bottles. Sippy cups with spout are also prohibited. Why? Because it will just interrupt in the natural process of breastfeeding. Milk bottles with their artificial nipples will make your breastfeeding journey harder because it encourages nipple confusion or flow preference.

Nipple confusion is the state where your baby is having a hard time latching on to your breasts because she has been used to sucking through artificial nipples. Healthy babies have the natural instinct to breastfeed so if this is disrupted by artificial nipples through bottle feeding then nipple confusion kicks in. In order to prevent this, and if you are not present to breastfeed your little one, then cup feeding is the best alternative.

Cup feeding is the best alternative to feeding the baby if the Mother is not able to directly breastfeed the baby for whatever reason. Basically the baby will be fed through the use of a cup. Here is a step-by-step process on how cup feeding is done (thank you to Breastfeeding Pinays FB group):

Since we are breastfeeding, the natural pacifiers for our babies are our BREASTS. If they need to suck, offer your breasts. If they need to feed, offer your breasts. If they need comfort, offer your breasts.

Should your baby be in the stage of nipple confusion already, do not worry you can still reverse it. Keep your baby closer to you, deal with each feeding challenge one at a time do not feel stressed out, encourage your little one by gently coaxing her to your breasts, and make yourself as relaxed as possible during breastfeeding. When you are relaxed, your little one will also become relaxed with breastfeeding.

Hold tight Mommy, nipple confusion should not be a reason for you to stop breastfeeding. You can do it! 🙂
